# The great robot IPO rush

Thirty-plus Chinese robot makers are sprinting to go public at once. Unitree just priced at $9 billion. Here's the whole field — on which exchange, at what valuation, with every company's funding history and early backers one tap away.

On August 6, 2026, Unitree priced its Shanghai IPO at 150.8 yuan a share — about $9 billion — becoming the first humanoid-robot maker to list on mainland China. It won't be alone for long. Behind it: **30 to 50 Chinese embodied-AI startups** have disclosed or signalled listing plans, and Hong Kong alone is processing 500+ applications.

## Already trading

## Why they're all running at once

Four forces pushing everyone to the exit together

**Capital is the weapon.** Scaling humanoid production burns cash. "Listing is a must," as one founder put it. A float banks a war chest before rivals do — in a 140-company field, whoever raises first can out-spend the rest into consolidation.

**Beijing holds the door open.** Unitree cleared review in a record 104 days. China marked "embodied AI" strategic, with **$26B+** in state and local funds since late 2024, free land, rent cuts and procurement pipelines. Fast-tracked listings are policy.

**Lock the valuation before hype cools.** Private marks are sky-high (Figure AI reportedly $39B on near-zero disclosed revenue). Chinese firms want a public benchmark banked while appetite is hot — Unitree's secondary chatter already ran toward $14.8B.

**The export-control clock.** New US rules could bar future Chinese humanoids from the American market. Raising domestic capital now hedges against being locked out later — most are pivoting to home and allied demand anyway.

## The edge over the West & Japan

Why China thinks it can win — and where it's still behind

The case is almost entirely **speed and cost**, not AI sophistication. Chinese firms shipped roughly **10× more humanoids than US firms in 2025** and filed **7,705 humanoid patents** in five years to America's 1,561\. The gap isn't invention — it's manufacturing.

- **20–30% annual cost cuts** — a Unitree G1 costs less than a used car
- **Complete domestic supply chain** — motors, reducers, sensors all local
- **Subsidies** — \~10% of each robot's price paid to early buyers

- **Real deployment** — units on BYD, Zeekr, NIO lines already

#### 🇺🇸🇪🇺🇯🇵 Where the West/Japan lead

- **AI & foundation models** — US still ahead on the "brain"
- **Precision components** — Japan owns the highest-spec reducers
- **High-reliability niches** — aerospace, medical, defense (Europe)
- **Deep private capital** — Figure AI's $39B dwarfs Chinese raises
- **Trust & standards** — Western buyers wary of data/security

Bottom line 

The rush is China converting a manufacturing lead into financial firepower before the window closes. Unitree is the benchmark; a dozen more are queued behind it. **Watch whether the public valuations survive their first earnings calls — the test private marks never have to take.**
